Bandits breach peace pact, kill several people in Niger

Armed groups locally known as bandits have breached a peace pact they entered with some communities in Niger State and reportedly killed three people between Saturday and Sunday.

POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that the bandits had earlier called for an agreement with the locals that they would not report them to authorities each time they pass through their communities from the forests to other parts of the state to carry out their nefarious activities.

They promised that peace would return to the communities if members of the communities cooperate with them.

But fresh reports indicate that on Saturday evening, the terrorists kidnapped many people in various communities. They came back in the night and killed three people and injured one person in Kombo, near Zara community, a few kilometres away from Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State.

Meanwhile, the group the communities signed a peace pact with has denied responsibility for the latest attack.
