Top Nigerian traditional ruler dies at 94 [PHOTOS]

Ajiyan Gombe and Senior District Head of Kwami, Alhaji Haruna Abdullahi, is dead.

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that Alhaji Abdullahi passed away on Monday at the age of 94, after a lengthy illness.

Late Baba Ajiya, as he was fondly called, was an elder brother of Ibrahim Yerima Abdullahi (Sarkin Ban Gombe), erstwhile Minister of Education, Science, and Technology; and Nigerian Ambassador to Malaysia.

He has been buried at his palace in Malam Sidi, headquarters of Kwami Local Government Area (LGA) – in accordance with Islamic rites.

Reacting to the traditional ruler’s demise, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State described the passage of the traditional leader as a huge loss to the state and Nigeria.

“Throughout his 53 years reign as a district head, late Ajiya was known for preaching peace and championing the course of unity and harmony, not only within his domain but across the entire state,” Governor Yahaya said.
