JUST IN: Gas explosion rocks Apapa Lagos [PHOTOS/VIDEO]

A gas tanker has exploded along Otto Wharf Road, Apapa, Lagos, POLITICS NIGERIA reports.

The incident happened at about 3:53 pm on Tuesday.

This newspaper learned that emergency response agencies have been informed.

The road is cordoned off for vehicular movement inward Oshodi from Otto wharf and personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service are on ground to extinguish the inferno.

On Monday, traders and residents were thrown into panic when a fire gutted the Oko-Baba plank market in the Ebute-Meta area of Lagos State and destroyed shanties and shops.

Hardly a month passes by without reported case(s) of fire incidents, especially in public places.

In a statistics released earlier this year, Nigeria’s Federal Fire Service (FFS) stated that gas and special services caused 151 fire incidents. Experts say this portends huge financial damage to the economy by worsening the nation’s poverty indices.
