JUST IN: Several killed in herdsmen attack on Benue community

Six people have been killed in fresh attacks on Mbagum community in Logo Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the attacks occurred simultaneously on Wednesday night, around 9 PM, in the two villages of Tse Valem Yaweh and Tse Ngojov in Mbagum.

The names of those murdered were given as: Ander John, Morgan Varem, Vihior Mtomga, Saaior Uyoosu, Peter Asondo, and Aondoyima Tarbo. The injured include: Igbaule Valem, Mrs Terngu Tyavkase Usue, and Chiater Tarbo.

This newspaper learned that those wounded by the assailants have been transferred to the hospital.

Special Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom on Security, Lt. Col. Paul Hemba (rtd.) confirmed the incident to newsmen in Makurdi on Thursday.

In the past, farmers and herders were able to manage disputes, primarily through the community justice system that employs dialogue and small peace talks in village squares.

But that inter-community conflict resolution process no longer works because grievances have increased in number and dimension.

Individual resentment transformed over time into large-scale violence.

The issue eventually assumed an ethnic dimension and has been presented as a problem between Fulanis and other zones in Nigeria.

  1. WITHER THE BELATED SECURITY OUTFIT.

The newly inaugurated Benue volunteer group may have missed this one and a message for both Governor Ortom and the people of the state.

THE VERY FIRST TEST FOR THE SECURITY OUTFIT.
