Why Jonathan can’t be an active member of APC, PDP – Former aide

Former Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and a pioneer member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olusanya Awosan, on Thursday said his former boss cannot be “an active member” of the main opposition party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), or any other political party because his roles changed from being political to that of diplomacy.

Awosan disclosed this on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily program, monitored by POLITICS NIGERIA.

“His (Jonathan) responsibilities now will not allow him to be an active member of any political party.

“The same thing with Olusegun Obasanjo. You see the number of travels that President Jonathan is making in recent times. He won’t have time.”

Recall that multiple reports surfaced earlier this year that Jonathan had joined the APC. In fact, in May, a group purchased the party’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms for him. However, the former Nigerian leader rejected the forms.

Jonathan contested the presidency on the platform of the PDP in 2015 and lost to President Muhammadu Buhari, who is currently in his second term in office.
