Ahead of the 2023 general elections, close to 2,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have dumped the party for the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the defectors comprising of people from 10 business unions were received recently by the Sokoto State PDP Gubernatorial Candidate, Mallam Saidu Umar alongside Sokoto State PDP Chairman, Bello Aliyu Goronyo who was represented by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal at the Hall of Giginya Coral Hotel, Sokoto.
Umar who welcomed the decampees into the fold of PDP assured them that they will receive equal treatment with existing members. He promised them that they will be carried along in all the activities of the PDP.
Heads of the business unions who decamped to PDP from APC include: Alhaji Lawwali Aminu Lalala, Alhaji Shehu Yaro, Alhaji Muttaka Aminu, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad, Alhaji Kabiru Abubakar, Alhaji Sulaiman Bello, Alhaji Rilwanu Muhammad, and Alhaji Nafiu Umar.
The Sokoto PDP governorship candidate was accompanied by the PDP Zonal Vice Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Dangwoggwo, Chairmen of Sokoto North and Sokoto South Local Governments; Mustapha Shehu and Faruku Sayudi; Director-General of the Commodity Board, Sidi Aminu Lamido; Alh Muazu Zabira, Sokoto North LG Vice Chairman; among other party leaders.
