DSS Arrests Notorious ESN Commander Linked to Deadly Attacks in Enugu

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected commander of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) during a security operation in Enugu State.
The suspect, identified as Sabastine Odo Odam, was apprehended alongside Ejike Daniel, who is believed to be a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The arrests took place on Friday during coordinated raids in Eha-Amufu and Umuhu communities in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.
Security operatives moved in after gathering intelligence on the activities of the suspects over a long period.
Security sources said the operation followed months of close monitoring of violent incidents in the area. Isi-Uzo LGA has witnessed several deadly attacks in recent years.
These include raids on police facilities and targeted killings carried out by armed groups operating in the region.
According to information shared by security analyst Zagazola on social media, investigators believe the suspects played key roles in some of the most disturbing attacks recorded in the area between 2024 and 2026.
“Both men have confessed to being masterminds of a chain of attacks on police stations and carting away of weapons. The attacks include the February 26 killing of 11 labourers and that of five policemen between December 24, 2025, and January 26, 2026.
“The arrests represent a major success for the DSS in the fight against insecurity in the southeast and the country at large,” remarked the source.
Local residents in Isi-Uzo welcomed the development. Many said communities in the area have lived in fear due to repeated violent incidents.
The news of the arrests has raised hopes that security may gradually return to the troubled area.
Authorities confirmed that the suspects are currently being held by the DSS. Investigations are still ongoing, and the suspects are expected to face prosecution once the probe is concluded.
