Police Seal Off ADC Meeting Venue in Cross River, Give Reason

A team of police officers in Calabar on Tuesday sealed off the venue scheduled for the inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) membership registration, mobilisation and revalidation committee.

Ahead of the party’s primaries, the ADC in the state had constituted a membership committee headed by Eko Alobo. The committee was slated to be inaugurated on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the Event Centre along Marian Road by 10:00 a.m.

However, as early as 7:00 a.m., a team of police officers cordoned off the venue, preventing party members from accessing the premises.

A source close to the security operatives said the officers were acting on orders to seal the venue following a petition allegedly submitted by some party members.

Efforts to resolve the situation proved unsuccessful, even as some senior ADC figures, including the South-South Zonal Vice Chairman, Usani Uguru Usani, and Bassey Eko Ewa, met with the Commissioner of Police to address the issue.

The venue for the meeting was later moved to the residence of Usani, where a large number of party members have reportedly gathered.
