Osun APC Candidate Omisore Drags Party to Court Ahead of Governorship Election

Fresh tension has emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State after former national secretary of the party, Iyiola Omisore, filed a lawsuit challenging the party’s governorship primary process ahead of the next election in the state.
The suit was filed at the Federal High Court, where Omisore is asking the court to review the circumstances surrounding his disqualification from the party’s governorship race.
His legal action has sparked renewed debate inside the party and raised questions about unity within the APC structure in Osun.
Omisore was among the aspirants who indicated interest in contesting the party’s governorship ticket. However, he and some other hopefuls were disqualified shortly before the primary election took place.
The decision immediately triggered dissatisfaction among sections of the party, with supporters arguing that the process lacked transparency.
Party insiders say the development has unsettled many members and deepened divisions within the APC in the state.
Some loyalists believe the disqualification of prominent aspirants could affect internal cohesion as preparations for the governorship election intensify.
The legal move by Omisore is now expected to test the party’s internal dispute resolution process. Observers say the outcome of the case may shape the political atmosphere within the APC in the coming months.
Meanwhile, senior figures in the party have reportedly stepped in to calm rising tensions. A delegation of elders from the Osun APC recently paid a visit to Omisore at his residence in Ile-Ife.
The meeting was aimed at persuading him to reconsider his stance and maintain unity within the party.
Sources familiar with the visit said the leaders also discussed the importance of strengthening the party ahead of the election.
The reconciliation effort was reportedly linked to the political structure of Adegboyega Oyetola, the former governor of the state who now serves as Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and remains a key figure in the Osun APC.
Despite the intervention, it remains unclear whether the crisis will ease soon, as the court case is expected to proceed unless an out-of-court settlement is reached.
