A top member of the proscribed Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP), Abbah Isa Modu, has surrendered to troops of the Multi-National Joint Task Force in Toumur, Diffa region of Niger Republic.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that Modu who hails from Ari Koukouri village in Nguiguimi escaped from the camp of the insurgents after he was allegedly fed up with being a terrorist.
Modu had participated in terror campaigns for many years before he escaped from his last base at Tumbum Kurnawa.
ISWAP, an offshoot of Boko Haram, is credited for several deadly incidents in Nigeria’s northeast, its major sphere of operations.
Data about the number of causalities Nigeria has suffered from ISWAP’s attacks are hard to come by, but there has been an increase in its operations.
