Festus Edughele, a former member of the Edo State House of Assembly, has been kidnapped by gunmen.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the attack occurred on Monday morning when Edughele was en route to Benin City, the state capital.
“He was kidnapped this morning in Ubiaja on his way from Orhionmwon to Benin.
“The family is aware of his kidnap, the police division in that area has been informed and we hope action will be taken to rescue him,” a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Festus Ebea, told the press.
Efforts by this newspaper to get official comments from the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwanbuzor, were unsuccessful.
The kidnap of the erstwhile lawmaker is coming just two days after about 30 passengers were abducted at the Ekehen train station in the same Edo State.
The incident forced the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) to announce the closure of the station until further notice.
Kidnappings is now a national tsunami sweeping the police away. The police may soon not have any more reason to continue to exist on taxpayers’ purse. The lawakers are also not doing enough and thereby putting democracy in jeopardy with indolence and lack of capacity to make effective laws to end the drift.
