Edo PDP spokesperson resigns, declares support for Gov Okpebholo

The Edo State publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Osa-Ogbegie, has announced his resignation from the party.
Osa-Ogbegie in a statement issued on Thursday said the opposition across the country has failed to organise itself despite a structured political alternative that strengthens democracy.
Also throwing his support behind the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, the former PDP spokesperson said there has been no expression of interest from credible aspirants within the PDP.
“This development compels sober reflection from all of us who believe in the necessity of purposeful political engagement.
“After careful reflection and wide consultations with friends, associates, political leaders and members of my immediate family and community, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to step down my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party,” Osa-Ogbegie said.
Further noting that politics must remain a tool for service to the people, Osa-Ogbegie said it is important for one to reassess their political platform for effective contribution to nation-building.
Stating that the time has come for him to step down as the mouthpiece of the opposition in Edo State, he said his focus remains on ensuring the delivery of good governance to the people of the state.
“Senator Okpebholo is not a stranger to me. He is personally a friend and a brother. If he succeeds, Edo succeeds. And when Edo succeeds, we all succeed. Political platforms may change, but the ultimate duty of leadership must always remain constant: to act in ways that advance the common good of our people.
“At this moment in our history, I choose the path that I believe gives Edo the best chance to move forward. Not for personal gain, but so that our dear state may rise above division, transcend political bitterness, and claim the brighter future that its people deserve,” he said.
