The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu; Labour Party, Peter Obi; and the 16 other presidential hopefuls on Wednesday signed a pact towards a peaceful election this Saturday.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the ceremony was witnessed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The peace accord is a mediation process that intends to forestall electoral-related violence in the 2023 election.
Party leaders are expected to discourage violence by encouraging their supporters to stay away from violence before, during, and after the elections.
All the candidates and the national chairmen of their parties signed the accord organised by the National Peace Committee at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja.
Some of the other candidates that signed the accord were Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Omoyele Sowore of African Action Congress (AAC), Hamzat Al-Mustapha of the Action Alliance, and Sunday Adenuga of Boot Party.
Christoper Imumolen of the Accord Party; and Yabagi Sani of the Action Democratic Party also signed the pact.
Kwankwaso
This shows the naivity of the Accord being forced on the political gladiators. It won’t work, and we know it. Just the day the Presidential candidates of the parties are grudgingly signing the so called pact, and this happened brazenly in the day time and at the open. If I may ask, did the initiators of this Accord ponder to evaluate the success of the earlier accords they intiated? Have they assessed how many instances of flouting and violations and who was/were responsible for them. Have they sanctioned the culprits? Are they also standing to be bandied into this recent Accord? To what extent will this one be respected?
Chimaroke mbadinuju should tell Nigerian what happened to this man. Labour Party should not keep quiet on this.
