The Director of Media and Publicity for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Bayo Onanuga, on Friday, asked Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, to “quickly make the old and new Naira notes available in ATMs and banking halls”.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Onanuga said that the CBN Governor adhering to the new Supreme Court order will “end the suffering in the land”.
“Supreme Court opens a door of redemption for Mr Godwin Emefiele, governor of CBN. He should seize the opportunity and quickly make the old and new notes available in ATMs and banking halls to end the suffering in the land,” Onanuga wrote on his known Twitter handle.
This newspaper had reported that the Supreme Court invalidated the naira redesign policy introduced by the CBN.
A seven-member panel of the apex court held that the old N200, N500 and N1000 notes remain legal tender until December 31, 2023.
The apex court faulted the policy of the CBN, saying the timing and implementation were defective.
