APC Membership Surges in Zamfara After Governor Lawal’s Defection — SSG

The Secretary to the Zamfara State Government (SSG), Abubakar Nakwada, has disclosed that the recent defection of Governor Dauda Lawal to the All Progressives Congress has triggered a sharp increase in the party’s ongoing e-membership registration across the state.
Speaking on Monday during the exercise in Gusau and Bungudu local government areas, Nakwada said APC membership in Zamfara has risen significantly within days of reopening the registration portal.
According to him, the party recorded about 60,987 new members within three days, bringing the total membership to 158,697, up from the initial 97,710 registered members prior to the governor’s defection.
“This brings the total membership to 158,697 as of 19:30 hours on March 15. On average, over 20,000 people are registering daily, reflecting the governor’s grassroots appeal and the growing popularity of the APC in Zamfara,” he said.
Nakwada expressed confidence that the party would meet its new membership target ahead of the March 25 deadline.
He also praised the commitment of supporters, noting their strong turnout despite harsh weather conditions and the ongoing fasting period.
Reaffirming the governor’s dedication to governance, the SSG assured that the administration would continue to prioritise the welfare and interests of the people of Zamfara State.
