JUST IN: Ex-PDP Governorship Aspirant Defects to ADC in Yobe

A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Yobe State, Ali Tikau, has defected to the African Democratic Congress.
Tikau announced his defection on Monday during a ceremony held in his hometown, Tikau, in Nangere Local Government Area. The event drew a large crowd of supporters, political associates, and community members who gathered to witness the move.
As part of the process marking his exit from the PDP, he symbolically handed over his party membership card to ward executives. The card was received by the PDP Tikau Ward Chairman, Samaila Jalamawa, alongside the ward secretary.
He was subsequently welcomed into the ADC and presented with a membership card by Babangida Dagare, who represented the state chairman of the party. Other ward officials present included Youth Leader Ali Garba Tikau, Organising Secretary Salisu Ibrahim, and Adamu Hassan.
Tikau, a former Executive Secretary of the National Primary Education Commission, previously contested the Yobe governorship election under the PDP in 2011 and 2023.
Speaking to journalists after the ceremony, he said his decision followed extensive consultations with his supporters and political allies, describing the move as part of efforts to explore new opportunities for development in the state.
“Having served the PDP peacefully for many years, we have collectively resolved to join the ADC to foster comprehensive development for our community,” he said.
He also pledged to strengthen the ADC and mobilise support ahead of future elections.
“We are fully committed to working tirelessly to ensure the success of the ADC in all elections, from the local to the national level, come 2027,” he added.
Tikau further urged his supporters to remain united and committed to the party’s ideals, expressing confidence that the ADC offers a viable platform to advance the aspirations of the people.
