The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday directed all workers to protest at the offices of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) across the country starting next week due to the lingering Naira scarcity.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, gave the directive at a press conference at the Labour House in Abuja, saying the directive became imperative following the expiration of a one-week ultimatum given to the apex bank to make cash available for Nigerians.
This newspaper reports that as the compliance by the financial sector regulators and operators with the Supreme Court ruling on cash policy of the CBN enters its second week, the scarcity of the banknotes appear unabated as multiple pressure points in the circulation of both new and old notes emerge.
Financial analysts predict that the scarcity will linger for weeks as commercial banks complain of not receiving any fresh supply of cash from the CBN last week in both old and new notes.
