Gov Zulum Reacts to Maiduguri Explosion, Vows Stronger Security Measures

Governor Babagana Zulum has condemned the explosion that rocked Maiduguri on Monday evening, describing it as a cruel and cowardly attack.
Zulum, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, noting that innocent residents were targeted during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, the governor urged residents to remain vigilant and called on security agencies to intensify surveillance, especially around mosques and other public places.
“I am deeply saddened by the explosions that occurred in parts of the metropolis on Monday evening.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those injured,” Zulum said.
He described the attack as “utterly condemnable, barbaric and inhumane.”
The governor suggested the renewed violence may be linked to ongoing military operations targeting insurgents in the Sambisa Forest and other hideouts across the region.
Despite the incident, Zulum reassured residents that security forces are in control of the situation and are taking steps to prevent further attacks.
He urged the public to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and cooperate with security operatives, while also encouraging them to report any suspicious movements within their communities.
Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with security agencies to protect lives and property across Borno State.
