A leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Ephraim Nwuzi has announced his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), just days after his release from detention.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Nwuzi had previously switched from the PDP to the APC in 2021, pledging his allegiance to former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, while accusing Governor Nyesom Wike of being overbearing.
Nwuzi represents the Etche-Omuma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and was arrested two days before the 2023 elections when the Nigerian Police invaded his home in Etche after a video circulated on social media showing him threatening to kill officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who would serve in the general elections.
The lawmaker lost his re-election bid to PDP’s Kelechi Nworgu and was remanded in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre in February after being arraigned and prosecuted by the Rivers state government. However, he was later released after the charges against him were dropped by the state government, which also announced the discontinuation of his prosecution.
Following his release, Nwuzi was seen in the company of Governor Wike and other PDP leaders at the Governor’s private residence in Rumuepirikom, Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
