The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has disclosed that former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, paid a visit to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, to show support amid his ongoing legal battles.
In a statement shared on Tuesday, the party said Obi visited Malami to express solidarity following his recent encounters with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and subsequent court proceedings at the Federal High Court in the FCT.
Details surrounding the meeting, including its duration and specific discussions, were not disclosed, although reports indicate it may have taken place in Abuja.
Malami is currently facing multiple charges, including allegations of terrorism financing, illegal possession of firearms, as well as a separate N8.7 billion fraud and money laundering case.
The trial resumed on Monday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where prosecution witnesses, including compliance officers from Union Bank and Access Bank, testified on financial transactions linked to accounts associated with Meethaq Hotels Ltd, Rayhaan Bustan, and other entities.
During the proceedings, Malami appeared in court alongside his wife, while their son joined shortly before the session was briefly adjourned.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik admitted several documents into evidence, including bank statements and official correspondence, as the trial progressed.
The case has been adjourned until April 20 for continuation of proceedings.
