Election: Oluomo relected into House of Assembly

Olakunle Oluomo, the speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, has been declared the winner of the Ifo 1 constituency election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that according to the Returning Officer for Ifo state constituency 1, Prof. Richard Shobayo, Oluomo emerged victorious with 7,546 votes, defeating his arch rival Yusuf Ogundele of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who garnered 6,596 votes.

Recall that the election which held on March 18, 2023, was initially declared inconclusive due to over-voting.

However, a supplementary election was conducted in polling unit 4, ward 1, Ifo constituency 1, on Saturday, and the PDP emerged victorious with 185 votes while the APC garnered 167 votes.

Before the supplementary election, the APC candidate was leading with 969 votes from the initial election, but the addition of 185 votes during the supplementary election gave them a total of 6596 votes, while the PDP’s total votes stood at 6410.

The Action Democratic Congress (ADC) secured the third position with a total of 3208 votes, having only won one vote during the supplementary election.

The total number of accredited voters for the Ifo 1 constituency election was 18,378, while the total registered voters stood at 95,448, according to the Returning Officer.
