“We’re Hearing Rumours” — APC Breaks Silence on Gov Bala Mohammed’s Defection

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has reacted to growing reports that Governor Bala Mohammed may be planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The party says it is not aware of any official move and insists the governor is the right person to speak on the matter.
Speculation about a possible defection has been circulating for days. The rumours gained attention across political circles.
However, there has been no direct statement from the governor or his media team. The PDP, led in the state by Kabiru Taninu Turaki, has already dismissed the claims.
Reacting to the development, the Bauchi APC chairman, Muhammad A. Hassan Tilde, made it clear that the party would not speak on behalf of the governor.
According to him, “If it is being said that someone is coming to the APC, the person concerned should be asked, when will he come? It is not the party that should answer that question.”
He stressed that party membership is a personal decision. He added that the APC cannot confirm moves that have not been officially communicated.
Tilde also spoke on the process of joining the party. He explained that defection does not begin at the top level. Instead, it starts from the grassroots.
He said anyone willing to join the APC must begin from their ward before moving up through the party structure.
At the ward level, officials also denied having any knowledge of the alleged move. The APC chairman of Yuli Ward in Alkaleri Local Government Area, where Governor Mohammed hails from, said there has been no formal communication.
“We have not received any information or statement regarding this issue. Like everyone else, we are only hearing the rumours,” he said.
He explained further that if the governor decides to join the APC, the process will follow due procedure. The ward leadership would first notify the local government chapter before escalating it to the state level.
Despite the uncertainty, the ward chairman said the party remains open. “We are ready to receive him if he decides to return to our party,” he added.
