“Personnel welfare is a non-negotiable priority” – IGP Disu assures police officers

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu has said that the welfare of all personnel of the Nigeria Police Force is a non-negotiable priority.

Disu said this during a courtesy visit by the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), Mohammed Sheidu, and members of the Fund’s Board of Directors.

The IGP said that the police are committed to a stronger and more strategically aligned partnership with the NPTF to drive the Force’s reform agenda.

He also noted that the key on the agenda is improved housing, accessible healthcare service and prompt payment of insurance and welfare benefits to personnel of the force.

According to him, these essentials are vital to sustaining morale, discipline, and operational effectiveness among all personnel.

Further calling on the NPTF to direct targeted welfare programmes at junior-ranked officers, Disu emphasised that personnel at the lower cadre carry the heaviest operational burdens and as such, they deserve consistent and structured support that would improve their service delivery.

He also reassured the force of his aim to build a more responsive, technologically driven, and people-focused Nigeria Police Force through the partnership with the fund.

In his address, Sheidu said the NPTF will continue to support the Police through needs-driven interventions across personnel trainings, personnel welfare and operational capacity.

Sheidu said the NPTF has successfully delivered more than 100 training programmes to over 13,000 police officers.

He also noted that over 170 building projects have been completed across the country to drive initiatives in healthcare, housing and smart policing infrastructure among others.

He added that the fund will continue to support operational readiness, contemporize facilities, and keep all interventions aligned with the strategic prerogatives of the Force.
