A petrol tanker caught fire on Thursday, reportedly claiming the lives of six persons and destroying properties in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that several other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident which occurred around Bauchi junction at about 1:30PM.
It was gathered that the tanker driver lost control and fell into a ditch by the roadside, leading to the inferno.
“Six people died in the fire, some beyond recognition. A car, tricycle and shops were burnt,” a source said.
Personnel of the State Fire Service were not present at the scene of the accident as of the time of publishing this report.
Nigeria has been inundated with horrific tales of fire tragedies, especially in relation to tanker accidents. This newspaper reports that there is no end in sight as fuel-laden tankers and heavy-duty trucks without safety valves still ply roads during the day, causing great havoc to lives and properties.
