‘I’m Being Watched’ – Ndume Says Govt Tracks His Calls While Terrorists Roam Free

Senator Ali Ndume has raised fresh concerns over surveillance in Nigeria, alleging that his phone conversations are being monitored by government authorities even as insecurity continues to spread across the country.
The lawmaker made this known during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television on Thursday.
Speaking during the interview, Ndume said he had received several warnings advising him to be careful with his phone conversations.
According to him, those warnings were not casual. He said they pointed to a deliberate effort to keep tabs on his communications.
When asked directly if he believed he was under surveillance, the senator answered in clear terms that this was the case.
Despite this, he downplayed the personal impact, stating that his major concern lies with the worsening security situation across Nigeria.
Ndume questioned the priorities of security agencies. He expressed frustration that while prominent individuals like himself could allegedly be monitored, criminal groups continue to operate with little restraint.
He pointed to the growing trend of bandits and террорист groups openly sharing their activities online.
He said: “You can imagine the bandits, the terrorists in Nigeria have the audacity to be reporting their atrocities on Tiktok and then disperse and sending it out to people.
“I believe that if telephone can be tracked, and where Ndume or politically exposed persons can be tracked, I begin to wonder what is going on?
“They have tracking system all over. I’ve been warned several times that look, be careful on what you say on the phone, because the phone is being monitored.
“So if I can be monitored, I kept getting confused as to why can’t they come…
“If you as a journalist can get information about me, what stops the security agencies or the intelligence agencies to get information about the whereabouts or the activities of terrorists.”
Pressed further on whether he was certain about the alleged monitoring, Ndume maintained his position, responding simply: “Yes”.
He concluded that while he does not see the surveillance as a personal issue, the larger concern remains the state of national security.
“I don’t have problem with that (government monitoring my phone). The whole Nigeria is country of concern now, but that’s not a big deal anyway,” the Senator added.
