Daniel Bwala Reveals Real Reason Tinubu Went to UK amid Opposition Criticism

The Presidency has come out to clarify the objectives behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing state visit to the United Kingdom, following a wave of criticism from opposition figures and concerned citizens regarding the timing of the trip.

Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy Communication, addressed the brewing controversy on Friday.

In a detailed statement shared via his social media, Bwala dismissed claims that the visit was a mere diplomatic luxury, asserting instead that it is a calculated move to secure Nigeria’s economic future.

The presidential aide emphasized that national growth cannot be achieved through isolation or by remaining stationary within the country’s borders.

He noted that the high-level engagements with the British Monarchy and government officials are specifically designed to yield tangible benefits for the Nigerian populace.

According to Bwala, “Some people are saying, “Why go to the UK?” Look, I hope you all know that you don’t grow and develop Nigeria by sitting at home and waiting.”

He further explained that the primary focus of the mission is to attract foreign direct investment and create sustainable employment.

Highlighting the warm reception by the British Sovereign, Bwala stated, “This visit is about opening doors: more investment, more jobs, and more opportunities for our people. His Majesty, King Charles has shown practicable commitment to partner with Nigeria on areas of mutual trust.”

The visit has faced intense scrutiny back home, with critics pointing to the country’s pressing security challenges and economic hardship as reasons why the President should have remained in Abuja. Some opposition voices described the trip as insensitive, especially following recent reports of instability in certain regions.

However, Bwala maintained that global visibility is essential for the nation’s progress. He argued that the President is actively working to restore Nigeria’s standing in the international community to ensure the country is not left behind in global economic conversations.

“President Tinubu is making sure Nigeria is seen, heard, and respected on the world stage,” Bwala added. “That’s how you move a country forward, not by staying quiet.”

The two-day state visit, which saw the President hosted at Windsor Castle, marks a significant diplomatic milestone, as it is the first inward state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years.
