Raping festival: Police arrests Delta community head, event planner, others

The Nigeria Police Force on Friday arrested the head of Ozoro community in Delta State over the alleged raping festival conducted in the area.
The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe said the community head was arrested alongside the chief organiser of the event, Omorede Sunday and four others.
In a post made on X, Edafe said the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola has ordered that all the arrested suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department immediately.
He said, “The community head and chief organiser of the event, one Chief Omorede Sunday and four other suspects from Oramudu quarters in Ozoro have been arrested.
“The CP has ordered that they should be transferred to State CID with immediate effect. The CP vows that anyone involved will be arrested and brought to justice,” Edafe stated.
Recall that POLITICS NIGERIA had reported that the police had earlier launched a probe into an allegation that some members of the Ozoro community were on a raping spree within the community.
In a video shared on social media, some male members of the community were seen harassing women on the streets.
Sources said the community had earlier warned women, including strangers, to stay indoors for the duration of the festival which was expected to last for seven days.
