The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the names of gubernatorial candidates for political parties in Imo state, ahead of the November 11 governorship election.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the commission has confirmed that Senator Samuel Anyanwu will represent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the gubernatorial candidate, with Dr. Jones Onyereri as his running mate.
While other gubernatorial candidates are yet to choose their running mates, the PDP candidate has not only nominated his running mate, Dr. Jones Onyereri, but has also established a Manifesto/Strategic Communication Committee to develop a people-oriented program for his administration.
“This goes a long way to prove that our governorship candidate, Sen Samuel Anyanwu is well prepared for the task ahead,” a spokesman for Anywanwu’s campaign Dumebi Ifeanyichukwu said in a statement.
“Imo will breathe of fresh air across the state, Sen Samuel Anyanwu and Rt Hon Jones Onyereri are Ready To Make Imo Safe Again,” Ifeanyichukwu added.
Political analysts predict that the PDP’s joint ticket of Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Dr. Jones Onyereri will bring surprises during the election.
This newspaper reports that Senator Anyanwu had previously been declared as the PDP candidate for the gubernatorial polls in Imo state after winning the party’s primary election on April 12 at the PDP secretariat in Owerri.
The Imo state gubernatorial election is part of the off-cycle polls to be conducted alongside Kogi and Bayelsa polls.
