2027: PDP Reconciliation Fails as Makinde, Bala Mohammed Meet Kwankwaso

Fresh moves ahead of the 2027 general elections have exposed cracks within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as reconciliation efforts among key figures appear to have stalled.
Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State were seen holding strategic meetings with top political actors outside the party’s immediate circle.
On Sunday, the two governors met behind closed doors with Senator Seriake Dickson in Bauchi. Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, currently represents Bayelsa West in the Senate.
The meeting, which was not open to the public, is believed to be part of wider consultations as political alignments begin to take shape.
Shortly after the Bauchi meeting, Makinde and Dickson travelled to Kano. There, they joined former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. Also present at the gathering was Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election.
The meeting was officially linked to the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. However, insiders familiar with the discussions hinted that the talks went beyond festive visits. According to sources, the meeting may be connected to early strategies and possible alliances ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
The development comes at a time when efforts to reconcile factions within the PDP have hit a wall. The bloc associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has remained at odds with other party leaders. Attempts to resolve the lingering disagreements have not yielded results.
While no official statement has been issued on the outcome of the meetings, the gathering of such high-profile politicians has raised fresh questions about the future of the opposition and the shape of alliances going into 2027.
