Buhari, Five African Presidents Set to Inaugurate Dangote Petroleum Refinery Today

Today, President Muhammadu Buhari, along with leaders from Ghana, Togo, Senegal, Niger, and Chad, will gather to inaugurate the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals.

Spearheaded by Africa’s renowned business tycoon, Aliko Dangote, this refinery, touted as the world’s largest single train facility, is nestled in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

Spanning an expansive 2,635 hectares within the Dangote Industries Free Zone, the refinery boasts an impressive processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd), a game-changer for the region’s petroleum industry.

This project is set to create over 100,000 employment opportunities, fortifying Nigeria’s position in the global oil market by reducing its dependence on petroleum product imports.

The inauguration ceremony anticipates the attendance of esteemed international dignitaries, including Presidents Gnassingbé Eyadéma of Togo, Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, Macky Sall of Senegal, Mohamed Bazoum of Niger Republic, and Mahamat Déby of Chad.

Additionally, numerous ambassadors will grace the occasion, while Rwandan President Paul Kagame will convey his goodwill message virtually.

With all 36 Nigerian state governors, governors-elect, ministers, senators, and prominent figures from the nation’s industrial landscape, as well as global oil traders, top international bankers, and representatives from multilateral agencies, demonstrating their eagerness to participate, the event promises to be a convergence of influential personalities from far and wide.

Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is expected to be at the event.

According to the Facts Sheet on Dangote Petroleum Refinery, the new Refinery can meet 100% of the Nigerian requirement for all refined products (Gasoline, 53 million litres per day; Diesel, 34 million litres per day; Kerosene, 10 million litres per day, and Aviation Jet, two million litres per day) and also have a surplus of each of these products for export.
