Many feared dead as explosion rocks Woro community in Kwara

Several people are feared to have been killed in an explosion that rocked the Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State on Monday, March 23.
Locals within the community confirmed that the explosion occurred in the early hours of Monday spreading fear among residents who scampered for safety.
A source who spoke on the incident said residents of the community are already in a state of fear following previous attacks on the Woro community which led to the killing of many people.
He also said that houses and other public facilities were destroyed while several residents remain displaced from the initial attacks.
His words, “There was an explosion around Woro this morning. The explosion claimed lives, number of lives lost is not certain.
“A car drove over an IED (Improvised Explosive Device). We believe it was planted by Boko Haram members,” the resident said.
He, however, could not ascertain the number of casualties recorded from the explosion.
Another resident, Aliyu Yahuza who spoke on the explosion said suspected terrorists have become a huge threat to community members.
Yahuza noted that residents now live in continuous fear of possible attacks by terrorists who invade the communities in the LGA.
Recall that a deadly attack by terrorists in the Woro community on February 3, had led to the death of over 20 people. At least 176 residents, including women and children were reportedly abducted by the terrorists during the attack.
Sources within the community have also stated that the terrorists had written to the residents with threats of further attacks while demanding N20 million as ransom for the release of each of the abducted victims.
