Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have unanimously re-elected Professor Emmanuel Osodeke as their National President to lead the union for an additional two years.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the re-election took place during the 22nd National Delegates Conference of ASUU, held at the University of Jos, Plateau State, from May 19 to 21, 2023.
Professor Osodeke, who hails from the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umudike, Abia State, emerged unopposed.
Alongside Osodeke, the union members also re-elected Chris Piwuna, a highly regarded Consultant Psychiatrist and Associate Professor from the College of Medicine at the University of Jos, as the Vice President.
The conference witnessed the re-election of several other prominent figures in ASUU’s national leadership.
Among them were Professor Siji Sowande, retaining his position as Treasurer; Professor Ade Adejumo, continuing his role as Financial Secretary; Dr Austen Sado, retaining the position of Investment Secretary; and Dr Adamu Babayo, maintaining his role as Internal Auditor. Additionally, Dr Aisha Bawa was elected as the new Welfare Secretary, replacing Dr Stella-Maris Okey.
