“Electricity crisis beyond our control” – Power minister apologises to Nigerians

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu has apologised to Nigerians over the persistent electricity crisis and power outages across the country.
Adelabu said this while reacting to inquiries about his ambition to contest in the Oyo State gubernatorial election.
In response, to the inquiry, Adelabu said what matters to him most is, delivering on his job as the Minister of Power.
He acknowledged that the power outages have affected businesses and key activities across Nigeria, while deepening the hardship faced by citizens.
Stating that he was currently excelling in his role as minister, Adelabu noted that his priorities include tackling foreseen, known and unforeseen challenges in the power sector.
He also assured that he is focused on resolving the power supply challenges facing the industry before the end of March.
“I want to apologise to Nigerians, officially now, coming from me as the Minister of Power, for this temporary issue that is leading to hardship being experienced, especially during this dry season, where there is so much heat everywhere.
“Businesses are being affected, schools have been affected, and industries have been affected. It is not our wish to find ourselves in this situation, but it is due to some factors that are actually beyond our control,” Adelabu said.
He added that relief within the sector would translate into easing the stress on Nigerians, and that it is imminent.
The Minister also said that a committee has been set up with a two-week timeline for the repair of the gas pipe among others.
“We already have a committee that is working on this to track compliance with the domestic supply obligations of these gas companies to our power plants,” he added.
