The National Public Relations Officer of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Yakubu Suleiman, has expressed the association’s firm stance on the importance of deregulating the oil sector and removing subsidies.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that in a recent interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program, Suleiman said the deregulation of the sector is the only way to pave the path for Nigeria’s greatness.
Suleiman commended President Bola Tinubu for his bold move to address subsidy removal in his inaugural speech.
“We truly applaud Mr. President for having the courage to announce the removal of subsidy,” he stated.
Emphasising the urgency of the matter, Suleiman noted that no country can thrive without deregulating its economy.
Suleiman clarified that Tinubu was merely informing Nigerians that the subsidy no longer exists. He pointed out that even the previous administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari had announced the removal of subsidies by excluding provisions for it beyond June 2023 in this year’s budget.
While acknowledging the significance of engaging in discussions with stakeholders, the IPMAN spokesperson reiterated that subsidy removal is the way forward.
Suleiman urged Nigerians not to succumb to panic buying, assuring them that an ample supply of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, is currently available in the country.
