JUST IN: New Kano Governor, Abba Begins Demolition of ‘Illegal’ Structures [PHOTO]

New Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, popularly known as Abba Gida-Gida, has taken action against illegally constructed structures on government properties.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that late on Friday night, a task force assembled by the governor initiated the demolition of buildings within the Kano Race Course (Filin Sukuwa).

This move follows Governor Abba Gida-Gida’s firm stance, outlined in his inaugural speech earlier this week.

He issued a clear directive to security agencies in the state, ordering them to promptly reclaim all public properties sold during the previous administration led by former Governor Umaru Ganduje.

Addressing the issue, Governor Abba Gida-Gida stated, “Today, I announce that all these public places and assets, which were unlawfully looted and sold by the Ganduje administration, must be seized by law enforcement agencies. The police, DSS, Civil Defence, and Hisbah will lead this effort until the government makes a final decision.”

The properties in question encompass various locations such as schools, religious and cultural sites, hospitals and clinics, graveyards, green areas, and the Kano city wall. Additionally, landed properties and assets belonging to Kano State, both within and outside the state, were unlawfully transferred to individuals and their associates.

To ensure justice is served, Governor Abba Gida-Gida disclosed that a Judicial Commission of Inquiry would be established in the coming days. Its purpose will be to investigate and prosecute all perpetrators, as well as those who aided and abetted these illicit activities.

In a related development, the governor also issued a directive on Friday ordering an immediate halt to all land development projects at the Hajj Camp. During his visit to the Kano State Pilgrims Camp, he expressed dismay at the condition of the facility.

“It is deeply disheartening to witness the debasement of a facility that was intended to provide a home away from home for pilgrims from Kano State and beyond. The immediate past administration shamefully sold numerous plots of land to their associates,” Governor Abba Gida-Gida expressed.
