Tinubu Driving Significant Infrastructural Transformation in South-East — Ohanaeze

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the completion of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway project.

The group noted that the scheduled reopening of the road on March 31, 2026, brings an end to years of public outcry over its poor condition.

Ohanaeze stated that for more than two decades, the Enugu–Onitsha route had posed serious risks, becoming a dangerous stretch for residents of the South-East and other Nigerians who ply the road.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its factional Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, alongside National Spokesperson, Chief Chineyeze Ohia, the organisation said the development marks a clear shift from past neglect.

“In stark contrast, President Tinubu’s era witnesses a decisive departure from this lamentable norm,” the statement read.

“The joyous announcement of the reopening of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway by the Federal Ministry of Works, scheduled for March 31, 2026, has been received with uncontainable enthusiasm and overwhelming joy by Ndigbo.

“President Tinubu is not merely changing the narrative of the Igbo experience; he is driving a significant infrastructural transformation in the South-East.

“The new dual carriageway, stretching 107 kilometres on each side, stands as a major legacy project that could influence the political alignment of Ndigbo in favour of President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we also make a respectful but urgent appeal to the President to release additional funds to fast-track ongoing federal road projects in the region, particularly the Makurdi–Nsukka–9th Mile–Enugu Expressway and the Calabar–Abakaliki–Benue–Abuja Super Highway.

“The need for improved road infrastructure in the South-East is critical, given the region’s demand for development and efficient connectivity. These projects should be prioritised above any political overtures from opposition coalitions.

“The reopening of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway not only restores a vital transport link but also symbolises hope, renewal, and economic growth for Ndigbo.

“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works, David Nweze Umahi, for this landmark achievement and look forward to sustained progress in the region.”
