National Assembly: Wike Kicks Against Muslim-Muslim Leadership

The immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has shared his opinion on the ongoing leadership battle of the incoming 10th National Assembly in Nigeria.

The PDP chieftain stressed that it would take someone who doesn’t like the country to suggest a Muslim Senate President and a Muslim Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Politics Nigeria gathered that Wike made the comments while speaking with journalists in his Port Harcourt home on Tuesday, June 6.

He noted that although President Bola Ahmed Tinubu won Nigeria’s top election despite campaigns against his Muslim-Muslim ticket with Kashim Shettima, such should not be repeated with the incoming 10th National Assembly leadership.

According to him, such National Assembly leadership would send the wrong signal to Nigerians and put President Tinubu’s administration in the spotlight that his Muslim-Muslim ticket was meant to Islamise the country.

He urged the President to balance leadership positions across religious lines.

Wike pointed out that the insinuations that the leadership of the three arms of government cannot come from the south have no bearing, as such was practiced during the last administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
