2027: ‘It Is Immoral and Unjust’ — PDP Faction Rejects Endorsing Tinubu

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected any move to support President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing such a step as morally wrong and politically unacceptable.
The position was made public on Thursday by Ini Ememobong, National Publicity Secretary of the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the party.
He spoke during an appearance on Morning Show on Arise Television, which was monitored by POLITICS NIGERIA.
Ememobong said the PDP, as a major opposition force in Nigeria, must not abandon its core responsibility of providing credible alternatives to the ruling government.
He stressed that endorsing Tinubu, who belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC), would weaken the party’s identity and betray its supporters.
According to him, “It is improper, it is immoral, it is unjust, it is unfair for an opposition party of the standing of the Peoples Democratic Party to endorse the presidency or the presidential candidature of President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC.”
He explained that the faction remains committed to rebuilding the PDP into a strong and united opposition platform capable of contesting power in 2027.
Ememobong expressed confidence that ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party would yield positive results.
He noted that internal disagreements should not push the party into decisions that could damage its credibility. Instead, he said, the reconciliation process must focus on strengthening unity and restoring discipline within the party ranks.
“So it’s part of the underpinning principle. We are hoping that reason will prevail over emotions,” he said.
