Despite Rubber Stamp Tag, Senate Passed Over 100 Bills – Lawan Brags

The outgoing president of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, says the ninth National Assembly passed over a hundred people-centered bills despite the “rubber stamp” tag placed on it by many.

Lawan made the comments on Wednesday during the farewell meeting with the senate press corps in Abuja.

Politics Nigeria gathered that the Senate under Lawan’s leadership faced criticisms from Nigerians after the leadership was allegedly imposed on lawmakers by former president Muhammadu Buhari.

But Lawan noted that the National Assembly under his watch ensured that the executive arm of government worked for the citizens, revealing that the former president signed over 100 bills in the past four years.

“For us and particularly for me, this ninth national assembly, no matter what anybody will call it, we have done what we should do to ensure service delivery by the executive arm of government to Nigerians,” Lawan said.

“At the last count, former President Muhammadu Buhari assented to about 112 bills in the last four years,” he added.

Lawan noted that some of the bills were critical to the reforms witnessed in the economy, oil and gas industry, social environment and the electoral process.
