President Bola Tinubu is meeting with Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano state, at the presidential villa in Abuja.
Kwankwaso was the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in the last general election.
The NNPP standard bearer arrived at the presidential villa around 5:30 pm on Friday, June 9.
With this visit, Kwankwaso becomes the first presidential candidate in the keenly-contested election to visit Tinubu at the seat of power.
Kwankwaso had also visited Tinubu in France before the president was sworn in.
There had been speculations that the NNPP presidential candidate would eventually defect back to the APC.
Kwankwaso, a former minister of defence, had set up the NNPP before the 2023 general elections.
He had a fallout with his erstwhile deputy and immediate past governor of Kano state, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
