The race to secure ministerial roles in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet is gradually intensifying, with the list set to be submitted soon to the Senate for approval.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this has sparked a power struggle among past and present governors, as well as key figures within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to a report by Vanguard, the lobbying efforts are not confined to APC members alone, as influential figures from opposition parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) are also vying for ministerial positions.
However, some APC leaders are expressing reservations about this trend. Prominent APC members argue that only “genuine APC members” should be appointed to ministerial roles.
This newspaper learnt that lobbyists have been diligently submitting the resumes of their preferred candidates to the presidency, especially following the recent appointment of special advisers.
Despite the clamour from governors, former governors, and leaders from various political parties, sources reveal that President Tinubu has yet to disclose the names of those likely to be selected for his cabinet.
It is understood that even close aides of President Tinubu remain in the dark regarding the prospective appointees. It has also been observed that some of the lobbyists have been making visits to the Aso Rock presidential villa.
Shedding light on the alleged infighting within the APC, a source stated, “I was informed that the President has refused to listen to those fighting amongst themselves.”
In a recent development, it has been reported that President Bola Tinubu may present the list of his ministerial nominees to the Senate after July 4. It is worth noting that the Senate adjourned plenary until Tuesday, July 4 last week.
Growing indications suggest that the list of ministers could be finalised before July 4. When the Senate reconvenes on that date, it is anticipated that President Tinubu will have prepared his nominees’ list, which will then be submitted to the red chamber for consideration.
