Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has appealed to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, not to be away from him even if he decides to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former Rivers governor has been associating with APC Chieftains since he lost the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential and Vice-Presidential ticket.
Politics Nigeria recalls that in the build-up to the presidential election, former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar defeated Wike in the PDP Presidential Primary, and he eventually settled for former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.
The outcome led to Wike and some of his colleague G5 governors pulling out their support for Atiku’s presidential campaign.
President Bola Tinubu later acknowledged Wike’s support, adding that he might not have won the election without him.
The former Rivers governor has been seen at the Aso Villa aligning with some APC members since Tinubu became president, raising speculations that he might join the party, but he denied it.
Speaking in Rivers at a Thanksgiving reception for Wike, Fubara said:
“While we are seeing signs that it’s like you want to go over to the other side with everybody wishing that, please don’t be too far from me because I know that the sharks, the tigers are around looking for what to hurt.
“So, being around would continue to guide and put my head straight for the purpose of this state.”
