The Kano State House of Assembly, on Monday, tasked security agencies to strengthen security measures against criminal elements in the state.
The Assembly stated this in a motion sponsored by the majority leader, Lawan Hussaini, representing Dala Constituency, during the plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Isma’il Falgore.
Hussaini expressed concern over the debasing conduct of some miscreants engaged in thuggery, phone snatching, shoplifting, drug abuse, and other unlawful acts capable of disrupting the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed within the metropolis.
Members of the Assembly, representing Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado, Ungoggo, Dambatta, Garko, Takai and Kabo, in their separate contributions, also argued that, if not promptly addressed, the security situation will escalate to an unprecedented level, noting that gangs are already terrorising and injuring innocent Kano residents.
They stressed the need for the state security council, security agencies, and relevant stakeholders to holistically review and formulate modalities for addressing the menace.
