Sokoto state governor, Ahmad Aliyu, on Monday, paid an unexpected visit to the Sokoto Specialist Hospital to ascertain the quality of service delivery.
Politics Nigeria reports the the Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Bawa, made this known in a statement in Sokoto.
Bawa revealed that the governor’s decision to visit the hospital without prior notice was a result of several reports and concerns raised by citizens of the state over poor service delivery.
He also mentioned other concerns that made the governor visit the hospital and they include, dilapidated buildings, poor power supply, shortage of manpower and lack of functional medical equipment, among other problems.
Bawa said that Governor Aliyu arrived at the hospital in a tricycle so as to be equipped with first-hand information for workers and patients on the premises.
”I was surprised with what I saw during my visit to the hospital which lasted for four hours; it afforded me opportunity to see things for myself,” the governor said.
Governor Aliyu revealled that patients and their relatives were exposed to numerous hazardous situations due to the dirty environment and lack of equipment in the hospital.
He expressed displeasure over the suffering of the poor electricity supply in the hospital.
The governor has called for a meeting with the hospital management for further discussions on how to salvage the situation.
