The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has presented a five-point agenda for the President Bola Tinubu administration.
National President of the Arewa youth group, Yerima Shettima, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.
Shettima commended President Tinubu over the recent sack of some top government officials and the appointment of Nuhu Ribadu as the National Security Adviser (NAS).
“Making Ribadu his NSA was a good thing because he is very principled and does not tolerate corruption, not because he was a former EFCC Chairman, but because he’s a no-nonsense person. So, I’m sure we are progressing in the area of insecurity,” he said.
Speaking on corruption, Shettima noted that the President has demonstrated his determination to subdue some powerful people in the country with the removal of Godwin Emefiele and Abdulrasheed Bawa.
He pointed out that individuals like Hadi Sirika, who was the former aviation minister, must also be made to explain the “last-minute scam” he pulled on Nigerians with the Nigeria Air project.
On the economy, Shettima charged President Tinubu to end states’ over-dependence on federal allocation, maintaining that they should be made to pay taxes.
“Though our economy is very bad, the centre can’t hold. State governors should go back to their state and begin to harness their resources,” he said.
The AYCF president also advised the President to open up the economy by giving room for agriculture to thrive and making sure the sector is adequately managed.
He urged the President to open up the land borders for imports and exports and impose restrictions on them instead with the Customs and Immigration diligently delivering their responsibilities.
