JUST IN: Six PDP lawmakers defect to APC in Ogun State House of Assembly

Six members of the Ogun State House of Assembly elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development means the 26-member Assembly is now made up entirely of APC lawmakers. After the 2023 elections, the APC won 17 seats in the Assembly while the PDP secured nine.

The defectors include Hon. Lukman Adeleye, Minority Leader and member representing Odogbolu constituency.

Others are Hon. Bello Oluwadamilare, Sagamu I; Hon. Lawal Samusideen, Ogun Waterside; Hon. Adesanya Oluseun Samuel, Ijebu North-East; Hon. Owode Waliu Ifedolapo, Ijebu East; and Hon. Dickson Kolawole Awolaja, Remo North.

The lawmakers reportedly attended the APC national convention in Abuja where they formalised their defection.

Adeleye confirmed the development in a telephone interview on Sunday with Daily trust, attributing the defection to the crisis within the PDP at the national level.

He said the leadership tussle between factions led by Kabiru Turaki and Nyesom Wike influenced their decision.

Adeleye said: “So, all this litigation and counter-litigation is not desirable. And then, we feel that instead of running under the Wike faction, which is more or less with the presidency, why not align with the presidency itself?”
