Former governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, may not be worried about the recent decision of his predecessor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to revisit the investigation of a video where he was seen receiving dollars as kickback for a government contract.
Politics Nigeria reports that the former commissioner for information in Kano State under Ganduje’s administration, Muhammad Garuba, recently told journalists that his boss is not losing sleep over the matter.
“The matter is currently being handled by the court, and being a lawyer himself, Muhuyi is well aware of the appropriate actions to take. We are closely observing the situation to see how it unfolds. As a lawyer, Muhuyi is best equipped to determine whether he has the legal authority to investigate the matter that is before the court,” Garuba said.
“I had spoken to Governor Ganduje, he remains unconcerned by the situation. This is strictly a legal matter,” he announced.
Garuba also declared that if Ganduje is summoned by the anti-graft agency, he would consult with legal experts to know the appropriate actions to take.
This newspaper earlier reported that the chairman of the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, Barrister Muhuyi Magajin Rimin-Gado, had pledged to reopen the investigation against Ganduje.
“It is understandable that every incumbent governor, deputy governor or president has immunity. Now that limit is no more. The commission will do what is necessary concerning the video that trended online,” Rimin-Gado said.
