A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

According to earlier reports, Gwarzo stepped down from the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf on Friday.

In a resignation letter dated March 29, 2026, and addressed to the party chairman in Gwarzo Ward, Gwarzo Local Government Area, the former deputy governor said his decision takes immediate effect.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Kano State chapter, effective from today, March 29, 2026,” he stated.

Gwarzo explained that his exit followed extensive consultations and careful reflection on the prevailing political situation.

“The decision comes after deep reflection and wide consultations with my political associates, supporters, and well-wishers across the state,” he said.

He noted that recent political developments made it necessary for him to reconsider his continued membership of the party.

“Recent political developments and the evolving political landscape have made it necessary for me to review my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and the nation,” he added.

According to him, the move was driven by the need to pursue a political path that aligns with his personal vision.

“My decision is informed by patriotic considerations and the need to pursue a political direction that aligns with my vision for good governance, democratic values, and sustainable development of our dear state,” Gwarzo stated.

He also expressed appreciation to the party leadership and members for their support during his time in the party.

“I sincerely appreciate the leadership and members of the party for the cooperation, respect, and support I received during my stay,” he said, adding that he remains grateful for the opportunity given to him under the party’s platform.
