Ondo Governor Sacks All Aides, Set to Appoint 1,000 Replacements

Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has dissolved his cabinet of political aides.

The decision affects all senior special assistants and special assistants serving under his administration.

Politics Nigeria reports that the move was announced on Monday through an official statement from the Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan.

The action marks a major shake-up in the state government. It signals a new direction by the governor as he seeks to reorganise his team.

The decision takes immediate effect, bringing an abrupt end to the appointments of dozens of political aides.

According to the statement, “In the ongoing drive to enhance efficiency and deepen service delivery, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has relieved all political aides of their duties with immediate effect.”

The government made it clear that those affected are strictly senior special assistants and special assistants. No further categories of appointees were mentioned in the announcement.

Despite the mass disengagement, the governor expressed appreciation to the outgoing aides. He acknowledged their efforts and contributions to the development of the state during their time in office. He also wished them success in their future pursuits.

The statement added, “Those affected are Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants to the Governor.”

In a swift follow-up to the decision, the governor has approved plans to appoint a fresh set of aides. The new appointments will be drawn from across the state. The administration is looking to bring in about 1,000 individuals into government.

The statement noted, “Meanwhile, in a step to strengthen coordination and inject fresh capacity into the administration, about 1,000 new aides, from across the 203 wards in the 18 local government areas of the state, will be appointed by the governor in due course.”

The planned appointments are expected to cut across all local government areas. This suggests a broader political inclusion strategy.
