JUST IN: INEC Presents First Witness in Atiku-PDP Petition Against Tinubu’s Victory

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in its defence at the Presidential Election Petition Court, has called its first witness in the petition filed by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the results of the last presidential election.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that representing INEC, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN) introduced Dr. Lawrence Bayode, an experienced Information Technology (IT) Practitioner, within the organisation.

During his testimony, Bayode, who declared his 24-year tenure at INEC, adopted his previously submitted written deposition from April 11, requesting the court to accept it as his official testimony for the case. Supporting his claims, Mahmoud presented a cloud trail log along with an accompanying certificate, both directly related to the technical glitches encountered within INEC’s system during the election.

Prior to the witness taking the stand, Mahmoud submitted a certified true copy (CTC) of a letter dated July 6, 2022, from the All Progressives Congress (APC), which INEC acknowledged.

This newspaper learnt that ongoing discussions at the tribunal revolve around the appropriate sequence for cross-examining the witness.
